Spaniards Arrive

The news of a new world to explore spread quickly throughout Europe. Spain was the firs nation to seek gold in the Americas.

The Spaniards heard about a rich empire in North America where Mexico is today. Hernando Cortez went to Mexico with only 500 people.

Hernando Cortez yang menaklukan Aztek. Ia bersekutu dengan suku lain untuk menghajar Aztek. tahun 1941 Cortez pulang ke Spanyol. Tahun 1947 ia mati.

Between 1519 and 1521, he conquered the great Aztec Empire. The Aztec were great warriors, but the Spaniards had many advantages. They had guns and cannons, iron armor and swords, and horses.

The Aztec had never seen these things. The Aztec also had enemies among the people they ruled. These people thought Cortez would free them from having to pay taxes to the Aztec Emperor, Montezuma. So they helped the Spanish soldiers.

Time line 900's-1565

• 900s : Vikings reach Iceland and Greenland
• 1492 : Colombus lands at San Salvador
• 1497 : Cabot discovers Newfoundland
• 1521 : Cortez in control of Aztec Empire
• 1534-1535 :   Cartier explores St. Lawrence River
• 1565 : Spanish found St. Augustine in Florida

Probably the greatest disadvantage the Aztec had was a story that had been handed down from generation to generation. 

Acording to this story, the ancestors of the Aztec were ruled by white gods. These gods had gone away hundreds of years before. But they had promised to return one day in great white birds that flew over the water .

Awalnya di Eropa menyebar berita tentang dunia baru.  Nah Spanyol berniat mencari emas ke dunia baru tersebut. 

Orang Spanyol mendengar kabar bahwa ada kekaisaran kaya di Amerika Utara (Sekarang Mexico). Hernando Cortez bawa 500 orang untuk pergi ke Mexico.

Nah antara tahun 1519 dan 1521 Si Cortez bisa naklukin suku Aztec. Suku Aztek waktu itu dikenal sebagai suku pejuang yang hebat, tapi Spanyol tetep unggul dibidang senjata, baju besi, pedang dan kuda.

Suku Aztec syok dan merasa aneh karena belum kenal senjata modern sebelumnya. Lebih parah lagi suku Aztec ini punya bwanyak musuh. Para musuh Aztec ini mengira bahwa si Cortez bakal ngebabasin mereka dari membayar pajak ke kaisar Aztec, Montezuma.

Saat Spanyol datang para musuh Aztec ngomong kek gini: Yes, ada penyelamat euy , bantu Spanyol yok ah , kita hajar si Montezuma. biar mampus dia.

Dengan bersuka cita mereka membantu tentara Spanyol.
